Banditos!!!

I am a backer of the Black Scorpion Tombstone Kickstarter and was excited to paint up some Wild West minis, so I ordered a bunch from Meeplemart and slapped some paint on a few.

They painted up easily and I love the character they have.  I still have many more to paint, and will hopefully get a bunch more done when I get back home from work in three weeks.

Painted while Listening to:  Alien: River of Pain

The sequel to Alien: Out of the Shadows, it is a prequel to the Aliens movie.  It focuses on the colony on LV426 before the Marine rescue ship arrives.  It wasn't as good as the first one, but really picked up about half way through the book.  Colin Salmon is one of my favourite actors, and it was great hearing him in this!

15mm Heer Pak 40s & 36s

I didn't have any SS crews for these, but was pretty excited to try them out regardless!  All are from Forged in Battle.

I tried airbrushing the guns using the MIG modulation paints.  It was my first time trying them and they are outstanding!  I also tried out a filter after I was done - first time trying that too, and I think they came out well!

Wow was I blown away with this audio drama!  It has a great cast and good story.  I don't see why they felt the need to bring Ripley in, but the voice actor for her was spot on.  Check it out!

15mm KillBots!

I picked up some of The Scourge from Rebel Minis, as I like the idea of a terminator-style robot apocalypse.  I thought I'd jazz them up with a pea dot camo scheme.

Painted while listening to:  Dead Lake by Darcy Coates

I'm a fan of Darcy Coates, and thought I'd try one of her books out on Audible instead of eBook.  This one was FANTASTIC!  Loved the story - very spooky!

15mm Ikwen

I came across these miniatures on the 15mm.co.uk site and really liked their look.  These are 15mm miniatures and I picked up the platoon deal they have on the website.

I painted up all these after about three days of straight working on them.  As always with 15mm, I try to kick up the contrast and brighten the colours.  I am extremely happy with how they came out!

This book was quite a surprise!  I really enjoyed it.  Horror fans will enjoy it.  :-)

Death Dog and Transluscent Tendrils

I finished up these three miniatures very quickly - a Death Dog from Reaper, and Shadow Tentacles from Reaper Bones.

Mainly drybrushing on the dog, and just basing on the tentacles.

Hmmmm...most of the stories were okay.  The last one (and the longest) really stands out and makes me think back to it days after I listened to it.  Great narrator too!

Vampire in Bat Form and Wraith!

I am surprised at how fast these two painted up, and how great they look!  Both are Reaper miniatures.

A great conclusion to this sci-fi series!  I really enjoyed all three books - highly recommended!

Planetfall Painting Craziness!

Okay, I know it's been a while - but I've been busy!  I got a LOT of the Planetfall minis painted:

I just finished the last picture of the Terran tanks today, and will be working on more Terrans soon.

Painted while listening to:  Crimson Shore by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child

I've read all of the Preston & Child books and some are better than others - this book is one of them.  It's a Penderghast stand-alone, which are the ones I like better than the continued storyline ones.  It has a good historical mystery in it and a twist near the end which I didn't see coming.  I won't spoil the very very end of it, but it ties into the continued storyline and I didn't enjoy it.  Too over-the-top for me.  Other than that highly recommended!

15mm Hura Technocracy

On the heels of the 15mm Dictators, I painted up some 15mm Hura aliens from Clear Horizon.

Again, I went for bright colours with these guys.  They were a blast to paint, and will probably pick up some more.

The Golden Son is the sequel to Red Rising.  I didn't think it could trump the first book, but it was just as good as it!  I must say I was surprised to see what happened throughout the story, and leaves you with a hell of a cliffhanger!

15mm Sci-Fi: The Dictators!

I wanted to try something a little different and decided to give 15mm sci-fi a go!  I picked up some miniatures from Khurasan that I liked (their website is currently down) and tried to make the paintjobs brighter than I usually would so they "pop" on the table.

Above you can see a crappy close-up picture of my test paint figure, and went with that colour scheme for the rest of the force.  The "Jungle Buggy" is a Hot Wheels car (I've since picked up a bunch more of them) that I will paint as transport.  It's called Aero Pod, which is a bit tricky with the Jungle Buggy name on it.  ;-)

I really tried to make the colours stand out and overexaggerate my highlights in order to make them stand out on the table.  I like the colour scheme I came up with and look forward to picking up more of these to paint!

I have some Clear Horizons Hura on the table next, and am prepping up a bunch more 15mm minis.

Red Rising is some very cool sci-fi!  I'm on to the second book now...   :-)

Demons!

More proxies done for playtesting the gothic horror rules - demons!  Capable of being summoned by witches and occultists, they are fierce creatures to come face to face with!

The above three are Hell Hounds by Heresy.  They are a b***h to assemble!  I used a two part epoxy glue to cement the parts together.  However, they are excellent sculpts and look great once completed.  I used "the dip" for all of the demons, with a highlight afterwards with red and orange.  I think they came all out great!

Both pictures above are miniatures from the Malifaux game.  The top ones I will use as Imps and the bottom three as minor demons.  I tried some fancy paintwork on the "smoke" effect.  All of the bases are from Model Display Products.  The lines are meant to represent summoning circles.

The last one is a Void creature that can be summoned.  It is a Reaper miniature from their Bones line.  Quite cheap and it was fairly easy to paint.  I just did a wash of Army Painter Dark Tone (not the dip) and a quick drybrush.

Miniatures painted while listening to:  Lord of All Things by Andreas Eschbach

It's an interesting book about nanotechnology and I enjoyed it, but it seemed a bit far fetched.  The start was really slow but zoomed along by the end.
