When I paint I usually listen to podcasts. The latest one that I've been listening to is the H.P. Lovecraft Literary Podcast.
I initially got interested in it because they were discussing classic ghost/horror stories that are my favourite to read. But I caught up with those in no time so I went back and started listening from the first episode.
If you are a Lovecraft fan, I think you will enjoy this podcast. The hosts are very humorous and keep your attention. They have guest hosts who usually have something Lovecrafty about them, and the people who narrate certain parts of the stories are usually top notch!
I totally forgot I had ordered these miniatures from Artizan. They are relatively new - the F.S.S.F. Characters I. I thought they were generic looking enough to pass for explorers!
I didn't spend a whole lot of time on them, and they were quite easy to paint. The bases are from Model Display Products.
Up next are some WW2 Russian Partizans and two monsters...
I was able to sit down tonight while the wife was away at a housewarming party and watch "The Whisperer in Darkness".
I really enjoyed their previous movie, The Call of Cthulhu and I enjoyed this one as well! I thought it moved a bit slowly at times and I don't remember their being a little girl that needs to be rescued or aerial battles...but I still enjoyed it.
The movie manages to provide a great atmosphere. The part where he's listening outside the window of the house was great! I also liked the brain case machine - the visuals were excellent. I know that the machine didn't project their faces in the story, but I realize that they have to make changes when making a more visual movie.
All in all I enjoyed this movie. It makes me want to go back and re-read the story once again.
When I saw these Nazi zombies on the Brigade Games website, I knew I had to have them. Sadly, that was probably 5 years ago! I finally got around to getting them and had a great time painting them.
The bases are from Fenris Games, and the leaf litter from Antenociti's Workshop.
I am very happy with how they came out, the blood and eyes especially.
Up next is more Arctic/Antarctic explorers...
I've had my eye on the Brigade Games Merchant Crew I + II for a while now. My gaming buddy threw out the idea of gangsters and when reading the Mad Dogs with Guns rules, I read the "Dockyard Rats" examples in the rulebook and immediately thought this would be a great excuse to get those figures! :-)
On the right is my mobster chief, enjoying a tasty smoke.
The fellow on the right has a great pose, and is from the Merchant Marine Crew with Tommy Guns pack.
I've seen the miniature on the right done up as Tintin's captain buddy before, but didn't paint on the anchor for mine. ;-)
All of these figures were a pleasure to paint. I still have four more to go, but have to wait until I get more dock bases from Model Display Products. Doing these was a great break from painting the WW2 Russians, which I will get back to eventually.
I am working on assembling the T-34 and ZIS-3 and won't probably have time to get those done until my next two weeks off.

I finally made it through the heavy mortar! I must say that some of the crew were either miscast or badly sculpted. One was so bad I tossed it out and added another from a different manufacturer.
The mortar and crew I bought from Warlord Games. The soldier with the accordion is from the Black Tree Design Soviet Character Set II. I bought the set mainly for the guy with his arms crossed, as he's awesome. However, the accordion guy came in handy as a replacement.
If anyone has a spare DShk machine gun from a plastic kit or some other source, let me know! I'd really like to have one for a HMG instead of using the Maxim. :-)

That's right, FOX VEGAS! :-) Actually it's called Fox Creek, and it's a super tiny town experiencing a boom due to the oil rigs out there. I went there to work the past two weeks. But here's the good news...I have two weeks to paint! Woo!

Our little baby (Rocky) has been throwing up a lot so he gets to spend the day with the doctor on Thursday.
